Alpsman by The Stone Xtrem Triathlon is not a triathlon like all the others. Xtrem Triathlon is, by its very nature, an extreme race. Extreme for the difficulty of the course, extreme for the psychological challenges involved, extreme because the preparation it demands is tougher than the race itself.
Those who choose to take on the Xtrem distance will experience a physical and mental JOURNEY throughout the many hours of racing. All of this unfolds within a territory that stretches like a ribbon of raw silk from Lake Iseo to Passo Paradiso. At center stage is Val Camonica, rich in ancient history and sporting heritage, with legendary cycling passes that have entered myth: the Mortirolo and the Gavia.
The pre-race base is Iseo, a charming town nestled on the Brescia side of the lake. From the day before the race, this is where the registration office and the first Transition Area will be located.
The start is at 4:00 a.m., in the darkness of the night, from the opposite shore of Lake Iseo. The swim covers 3.8 km and is a true open-water crossing, from shore to shore.
On the bike, over 180 km, athletes ride the entire Val Camonica, climbing the Aprica Pass, the Mortirolo Pass (from the less demanding side), and the infamous Gavia Pass.
The second Transition Area is in Ponte di Legno, a renowned tourist resort in the upper valley. The transition area is located in the historic town center.
The run is a trail race, almost entirely on dirt paths, covering 38.5 km along the trails of the upper valley. Athletes climb from 1,200 m at T2 to 2,600 m at the finish at Passo Paradiso, passing the checkpoint before Ponte di Legno and then the Passo del Tonale checkpoint, 8 km from the finish, where the feared cut-offs apply and athletes must pass within set time limits.
The finish is at Passo Paradiso, at 2,600 m, by 12:00 a.m. (midnight). For most athletes, this will be after nightfall.
Remember: for those who manage to complete it, regardless of result or time⦠ALPSMAN BY THE STONE IS FOREVER.
